(How me and my friends had a fun summer jewelry party) Summer and winter have something in common: once the big holidays are done, it is just a long time of doing nothing. In the winter, once New Year’s is over, there is Valentine’s Day for the lucky but otherwise there is nothing. Summer is the same. There is Memorial Day and Fourth of July, with lots of weddings in between, but after Independence Day, there’s nothing until Labor Day. Naturally, that wasn’t good enough, so my friends and I have a midsummer party, complete with fun summer jewelry. It isn’t quite midsummer – that would be too close to Labor Day and people back to schedules – but what it lacks in precision it makes up in enjoyment. People come out dressed up in their finest, including diamond earrings, gold diamond necklaces and other fashionable jewelry to go along with their fashion dresses. It’s a large party, with over one hundred people attending, but there is a core group of us and we make it a special occasion just for us by exchanging gifts. We never determined what the gifts would be. I think it just happened naturally when it started to be a big deal and we wanted to make sure we all had a gift that was special for the occasion. Beautiful jewelry that was also summer fun as well seemed to be the goal. This way, we all had something that was special for the party as well as appropriate for parties and events throughout the rest of the year. Even though that was never the intention, having that fun summer jewelry to wear elsewhere in the year was a great bonus. When our friends saw us wearing it, or we saw it on them, we’d share a smile. More importantly is the party every summer. Now we know that not only will we have a great time with some of our closest friends, we also have the pleasure of fun summer jewelry we will be wearing the rest of the year.
